ChatGPT, which initiated the artificial intelligence-supported chat trend, quickly lost its popularity and declined. Google Bard, aiming to elevate the competition to the next level, will provide better service by remembering important details you tell it thanks to the Memory feature.
Google Bard will remember what you say with the Memory feature
Today, when chatting with Bard, each new conversation starts from a different page; in other words, if you and a friend ask the same question on Google’s artificial intelligence chat platform, you get very similar answers.
Bard needs some details like your current location to personalize your response. However, sometimes it can be boring to remind the artificial intelligence of these details at the beginning of every conversation. For example, if you follow a gluten-free diet or have a food allergy, you need to tell Bard when you ask for recipe ideas.
It appears that Google is developing new technology for Bard to remember specific details you share with it and use them to improve future outcomes. As revealed by Dylan Roussel, the upcoming Memory feature will allow Bard to take into account specific details you share with it and use them to enhance future results.
In the initial versions of the user interface (below), Google provides some examples where Bard’s memory may be requested.
I’m trying to avoid eating meat. I have 2 children. Please provide shorter answers. In these examples, it is assumed that the phrase “I’m trying to avoid eating meat” will be used to improve recipe recommendations, while the phrase “I have 2 children” will be used for things like portion sizes for travel recommendations and meal ideas. Similar functionality arrived earlier this year for ChatGPT in the form of “custom instructions.”
You will be able to add new preferences from the Memory page, which can likely also allow you to delete incorrect or unwanted memories.
In terms of privacy, it will be possible to quickly and easily disable Bard’s Memory using the button on the left side of the screen. This will make it easier to initiate conversations that are not based on memories (perhaps to show Bard to a friend) or to inquire about topics you prefer Bard not to remember for the next time.
